If there’s ever a day to be an “early riser,” it’s for Denver’s upcoming Pro Roe Bake Sale, which is back and better than ever on Saturday, April 12 at Dry Clean Only / Hot Shot Coffee on York Street.
By 9:45 a.m. there’s already a small crowd gathering — waiting in line, chatting with friends, all coming together with a shared motive: supporting reproductive rights.
The doors won’t open until 10 but the enthusiastic energy continues to build, buzzing like the coffee that’s brewing inside with the pastries. This event may appear from the outside to be a simple bake sale, but in reality it stands for so much more.
Over the past three years what began as a grassroots idea has expanded into something far more powerful as a volunteer-powered happening. Since its inception, this event has raised more than $56,000 for Planned Parenthood — and this year, the goal is even more ambitious; it’s time to find out whether it’s possible to raise $25,000 in a single morning (we believe!).

When the doors open, attendees gain access to a collection of some of the city’s best bakeries and pastry shops across greater Denver — all in a single spot. Sweet tooths can unite alongside a barrage of tasty pastries from businesses like WKND Bake, Hearth, Elemental Bakery & Coffeehouse, Moxie Bread Co, Send Flours, and Moon Raccoon Baking Co. among many beautiful bakeries proudly presenting their bites in support of a just cause.
But it’s not all about the baked goods — there’s also a raffle taking place, boasting more than 35 different prizes ranging from concert tickets, to restaurant experiences, shopping outings, spa days and more. Each experience offers its own kind of unique appeal, and each ticket stands for another small act of support.
Every purchase at this family-friendly event feeds you while also feeding the endorsement for a larger cause: supporting reproductive rights, and the ongoing work of Planned Parenthood.

For those who can’t stand to stand in line, this year there’s a new VIP option. VIP wristbands come with 30 tickets (to be exchanged for baked goods or raffle items), a brand-new Pro Roe canvas tote bag, an “eye-opening” cocktail (or coffee) and of course, VIP entrance off the parking lot of DCO — allowing guests to bypass the general entry line.
Technically this event is scheduled to run until noon — but it’s much more likely everything will sell out far before then. And after the event is over, when the tables are cleared, the coffee and goodies are gone, and the last raffle ticket has been drawn, the impact of this collective community gathering will linger, like the sugary smell of a rising pastry.
Will we see you there?!
